In Second Life we have the freedom to create any type of environment we can imagine, yet much of what we see reproduces the worst aspects of real life, including sexism, misogyny and violence against women. In SL women are artists, entrepreneurs, researchers, friends and partners. Yet all around we see ourselves portrayed as hypersexualized and dehumanized.
We are here to say women are not things to be bought, sold, abused, harassed, humiliated, beaten, or enslaved. We have an inherent human right to dignity, bodily integrity and freedom from harm. Violence against women in any form is not acceptable. It is not sexy, subversive or fun. We envision a world of equality and respect for all humans. One where we can be our true selves, independent.
